WV Make it Shine Program

The WV Make It Shine Program is a comprehensive program aimed at making WV the cleanest state in the nation. Throughout the state, groups of volunteers, businesses, community organizations and local governments are working to accomplish this goal. It is the responsibility of the WV Make It Shine Program to coordinate the effort of these people to make our state shine. The WV Make It Shine Program is involved in several events each year.

For more information or to register your group: contact Terry Carrington, Make It Shine Coordinator, at terry.r.carrington@wv.gov, or 304-926-0499 ext. 1359.

History of Earth Week

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. In celebration of Earth Day we sponsor various events that encourage recycling within our County.

April of 2010, we partnered with the Clarksburg Mission to collect unused/unwanted clothing and household items to be resold or recycled. All proceeds went to benefit the Mission.
April of 2011, we partnered for the 2nd year with the Clarksburg Mission and the Sheltered Workshop to collect unused/unwanted clothing and household items to be resold or recycled. All proceeds went to benefit the Mission.
April of 2012, we partnered for the 3rd Annual year with the Clarksburg Mission and the Sheltered Workshop.
April of 2013, we sponsored an Earth Week poster contest with the Liberty High School's Art Class. The theme was reduce, reuse and recycle. Prizes were awarded to the winners!
April of 2014, we partnered with the area libraries to host a book recycling event that took place the entire week of Earth week. The books collected were then taken to Resolute for recycling.
April of 2015, we partnered with the area libraries to hold our 2nd Annual Earth Week book collection. Residents were able to drop off their unused/unwanted books to be recycled.
April of 2016, we partnered with the area libraries to hold our 3rd Annual Earth Week book collection. Residents were able to drop off their unused/unwanted books to be recycled.
April of 2017, we partnered with the area libraries to hold our 4th Annual Earth Week book collection. Residents were able to drop off their unused/unwanted books to be recycled.
